I worked full time in the Smart Structures Laboratory for more than one year, from August 2015 to November 2016. I helped with preparatory experimental work and assisting other postgraduate students in the use of complex equipment and data analysis techniques. I assisted students with furnace testing and trained students with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Photogrammetry and Digital Image Correlations technology. I has an excellent understanding of the advanced computer software ATENA-GiD and a specialist understanding of the use of carbon fibre to repair structures damaged by fire. On this basis, I was involved in FRP strengthening the following projects: • FRP strengthening of exterior post-tensioned band beam to column connections under earthquake loading. • Anchorage systems in large scale post tensioned beams strengthened in shear with carbon fibre. • Torsional strengthening RC beams using NSM FRP technique. • Performance enhancement of Alkali-Aggregate reaction damaged concrete columns using fibre reinforced polymers composites. • Strengthening RC beams using NSM FRP technique during and after fire exposure.
