Dr. Stepanian's first residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology took place at the V.I. Kulakov Federal Center for Perinatology Obstetrics & Gynecology of Russian Ministry of Health, formerly known as the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Center for Perinatolgy, Obstetrics, and Gynecology. She continues her research and surgical experience with the center in various fields of gynecologic surgery. Most recent is a publication of the classification of Mulerian Anomolies (over 1,400 cases). For her accomplishments in education in gynecologic surgery, she received an honorary professorship from the center.

Dr. Stepanian joined the practice as an AAGL/SRS Fellow in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery in 2005 under the auspices of Dr. Thomas L. Lyons after completion of gynecologic residency in the United States. She continued to work at Center for Women's Care after completion of her fellowship. In addition to Dr. Stepanian's AAGL Fellowship, she received training in Pelvic Floor Reconstructive Surgery with Dr. John Miklos & Dr. Robert Moore that resulted in the publication of the Kurt Semm award-winning article "Risk of Mesh Extrusion after Laparoscopic Sacral Colpopexy with or without Concurrent Laparoscopic Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy," the analysis of 402 cases.
