Syed Aoun Muhammad «As a Leader Mr. Asif Haider Mirza is highly motivational and as a human being he is truly inspirational. Being one of the greatest motivators I have met, Mr. Asif is the

go to person when conflicts arise. He looks out for his team but is not one to draw attention to himself deliberately – his work does that for him. He has built a reputation as someone who has a broad vision and this vision is what will take a company places. Thanks for putting pressure on me, being tough on me for my mistakes that were silly. Sometimes tough love is necessary to transform amateurs into professionals, which is what I have learnt in my career’s journey.»

In 2007, I joined Safeway Fund Limited as Chief Executive Officer with the responsibility for revamping and restructuring the operations of two listed closed end funds with a combined portfolio in excess of PKR 1.5 billion. The exercise entailed a two prong approach – firstly, realignment of the heavily concentrated portfolio to create a more a diverse portfolio with an improved risk profile, and secondly, the development of a control environment through the introduction of System Manuals, Policies and Procedures. To further strengthen the control environment, an effective functioning Investment Committee was also commissioned headed by the CEO. The investment philosophy adopted focused on investing on the basis of fundamentals as opposed to trading on technical and market perceptions. This strategy required building a sound knowledge of the businesses, developing a valuation model for the business, taking sound investment decision, and monitoring the investment against bench marks.

Started my career in financial services sector with Creslease by setting up an “investment banking” department as an independent profit center. This included the responsibility of identifying opportunities, marketing, developing loan and lease syndication's, arranging IPOs, mergers and acquisitions and facilitating the execution of these transactions. Following is a summary of Corporate Advisory and Arrangement transactions carried out after securing ”IFS” License from ”SECP” . Completed various restructuring assignments, loan and lease syndication arrangements, private placement of TFCs.  Provided advisory services for a leveraged buyout of a hotel in UAE (USD 7 million) Acted as advisor and arranger from the buyer’s side on an acquisition of a dormant, public transport company. Advised on a mega merger of various textile units including the supplier of Levis jeans and its associated companies.  Facilitated inorganic growth of the Company by completing the due diligence of three leasing companies, identified one of the companies for acquisition, completed valuation exercise and determined proposed bid price, analyzed the impact of merger, and developed documentation for merger and scheme of amalgamation. Throughout my career with the Company I raised financing for the Company’s growth. Over a period of thirteen years, the Company grew by a compounded annual growth rate of over 21%.During this period I was also involved in raising financing from multilateral agencies including Commonwealth Development Corporation of UK (now Actis Capital partners) and International Finance Corporation.
