  It is now well recognized that the development and maintenance of reproductive activities required substantial energy. Inadequate food intake/nutritional reserve may lead to reduced reproductive function. A recently discovered neuropeptide nesfatin-1 plays important role in regulating energy homeostasis inside body. My research work has shown profound effect of nesfatin-1 in increasing testicular steroidogenesis and spermatogenesis in adult mice via improving energy influx to the testis. My study for the first time showed indispensable role of nesfatin-1 in gaining puberty and sexual maturation. Also, nesfatin-1 has shown its potential to be a molecule of hope as an anti-diabetic drug which improved low testosterone in type-2 diabetes patients. Show less
