As a member of the CLS team, my daily responsibilities were diverse. I played a pivotal role in managing secondary trades, working closely with CLS clients to efficiently process their requests. This hands-on experience provided me with a deep understanding of trade execution and the importance of speed and precision in this industry. Additionally, I had the privilege of assisting in the launches of primary trades, actively engaging with financial institutions such as J.P. Morgan, UBS, RBC, and Barclays. These interactions not only allowed me to gain insight into the intricacies of primary trades but also enabled me to foster relationships with industry professionals. My role extended beyond trade execution, as I was tasked with retrieving pricing and modelling potential new primary launches. Using Excel, I honed my financial modelling skills, becoming proficient in structuring various structured products. Furthermore, I delved into the world of programming, gaining proficiency in SQL and VBA, which were essential for various tasks within the organization. One of the key tools at my disposal was the Bloomberg Terminal, which I learned to navigate effectively. CLS supported my learning journey throughout my time with them. Managing the company's website and database containing product and trade details added an extra layer of responsibility, sharpening my organizational skills. My year at Catley Lakeman Securities equipped me with invaluable skills, including time management, confidence in client interactions, advanced Excel capabilities, and programming proficiency in SQL, VBA, and Python. My familiarity with the Bloomberg Terminal further enhances my financial expertise. I am excited to leverage these skills and experiences in my career, and I am grateful to CLS for the fantastic opportunities I had during my placement year. Show less

I participated in Simulations for Asset Management and Sales & Trading The simulations were based at the time of the financial crisis I rotated through 3 different roles for Sales & Trading, the roles were Sales, Market Maker and Hedge Fund This experience highlighted the speed at which decisions would need to be made in reality as the market movements are very volatile when fundamental news is released
