Currently immersed in an microbiology research initiative at the Unnikrishnan Lab, Warwick Medical School. This research opportunity is made possible through the competitive University of Warwick's Undergraduate Research Support Scheme (URSS). My project, titled 'Investigating Pathogen-Commensal Interactions in the Gut,' centres on delving into the dynamics between the gut microbiome and its influence on pathogen colonisation, with a particular focus on the hospital-acquired bacterial pathogen, Clostridium difficile. As a member of an interdisciplinary team of eight undergraduate students known as "PyRe," I had the privilege of representing the University of Warwick at the 2022 iGEM Synthetic Biology competition. Our SynBio project revolved around the detection and degradation of pyrethroid pesticides in the environment. This was achieved through the development of a specialised aptamer sensing system and the utilisation of an E. coli chassis engineered to express specific cell-surface degradation enzymes. My primary responsibilities encompassed hands-on wet lab research, with a particular emphasis on spearheading the creation of the cell-free aptamer-based sensor. Additionally, I took the lead in establishing a collaboration with Concordia University's iGEM team to construct a cell-free aptamer-based sensor for their target organophosphate pesticide. Some of the other laboratory tasks I undertook included: • Preparing competent E. coli • Executing bacterial transformations and cloning procedures • Conducting PCR and gel electrophoresis experiments • Preparing plasmids and performing Minipreps Our team's accomplishments were noteworthy, including: • Engaging with esteemed research professionals and industry experts, including Syngenta and Severn Trent • Orchestrating a symposium event designed for showcasing the research of PhD students • Creating our project's wiki using HTML and hosting it on GitHub • Presenting our SynBio project to a panel of judges at the 2022 iGEM Jamboree in Paris, where we were honoured with a 'Gold Award' and a nomination for the 'Best Environmental Project' Show less

I worked as a retail team member at Superdrug, a health and beauty store, during my gap year. This experience was particularly significant as it coincided with the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. My responsibilities involved juggling various tasks, including restocking shelves, assisting customers with their inquiries, processing orders, and keeping a close eye on the shop floor to ensure it ran smoothly. I also excelled in this fast-paced environment, serving more than 35 customers per hour, whilst effectively utilising the POS system. I honed my skills in effective upselling when operating the shop's cash register, contributing to the store's overall success. Show less
