I assist Forensic Scientists in the DNA and Biology sections with triaging casework with other agencies. My primary responsibilities are monthly, bi-annual and annual maintenance/troubleshooting of general and specialized equipment used for extraction, quant, amplification, and data analysis. As well as QC of each new kit and chemical prior to casework use. Additionally, I am responsible for lab decontamination, restocking, and ordering. All of my work falls under our lab accreditation… Show more I assist Forensic Scientists in the DNA and Biology sections with triaging casework with other agencies. My current work focuses on the neurobiology, gene expression and mechanisms of behavior. We employ an integrative approach that uses tools of biology, physiology, behavior, and ecology to understand how behavior is regulated in a natural environment. Specifically, I directly assist the Principal Investigator with managing a multi-year project. Some of my tasks include PCR amplification of DNA, histology, immunohistochemistry, light and confocal microscopy, tissue sectioning and preparation for… Show more My current work focuses on the neurobiology, gene expression and mechanisms of behavior. Additionally, I am certified in radioisotope use and am responsible for managing biohazardous waste for our lab. I have trained over 30 students in laboratory techniques and currently have eight students working and volunteering with me in a lab. My position was funded by a federal National Science Foundation (NSF) research grant. Show less My current work focuses on the neurobiology, gene expression and mechanisms of behavior.
