I had the great fortune to manage Ashley directly at Leafly, and the terrible misfortune to watch her depart due to companywide layoffs forced by the coronavirus economy. I was Leafly's senior editor overseeing our news coverage, and Ashley joined us as our senior news editor in late 2019. We were thrilled to find her. Ashley integrated quickly into our Leafly Content team--managing the daily news coverage triage, recruiting a diverse network of new freelance writers, assigning stories, line editing and copy editing, building in Wordpress, and contributing as a valued voice in our discussions of daily coverage and long-term direction. I had a sense of her abilities due to her background as a managing editor (traditionally a critical but thankless do-it-all, run-it-all job) at previous news outlets, and those abilities really took off at Leafly. Ashley kept our daily news coverage humming, extended our freelance network, proposed and executed a number of valuable long-term projects, and took on work outside her immediate sphere to help out projects in other company departments. Ashley possesses a keen news sense; a sharp awareness of politics, economics, and social change; and a finely tuned ability to read the room, whether that's a literal room or a figurative room as big as a state or country. On our weekly news podcast, Ashley proved to be an incredibly insightful voice, able to both relate the news, put it in context, give it meaning, and add her own unique perspective, all while creating a safe and inviting space for others on the podcast. She has been a joy to manage, although it's been more partnering with her than managing her honestly. She shows up, works hard, works extremely well with others, helped us laugh, kept us honest, and was always a bright, positive presence in the office. We miss her terribly at Leafly, and whoever is smart enough to hire her next will be adding a truly wonderful addition to the team. Bruce Barcott Senior Editor, Leafly

I had the pleasure of working on the same team as Ashley, her productivity is incredible! Blog posts, product descriptions, marketing copy, and more were completed on time and on spec. Outstanding interviewer and storyteller, Ashley is a bright, hardworking professional!

I self-published my first novel, "Scourge of the Righteous Haddock" in August of 2013. My second novel, "Vestal" was published in the spring of 2016. My third novel, "The Wheel Diver," is available at www.thewheeldiver.com. All three are young adult fantasy novels. The first two novels are available on Amazon. I've utilized my experience working with artists, designers, and editors to produce work that neither looks nor reads as though it was self-published. My goal is to produce work that not only matches the work being produced by major publishing houses, but to exceed their efforts in terms of courage, creativity, and willingness to experiment. If you've never worked in a newsroom, I'm not certain I can quite describe the experience—the challenge of producing 52 issues per year, in addition to 13 themed special issues in an era of ever-diminishing resources and cutbacks. It's the most thrilling, and exhausting, ride imaginable with the absolute best and strangest people you'll ever meet. Despite our diminishing resources, we reached for the moon. We produced a cover story told in graphic novel form, organized photo shoots featuring bulls and bathtubs and sunrise unicorns, an honest-to-god row boat in the Elks pool (for our Brides issue, of course). We won awards, which were never the main point, but were nice, I suppose. We played hide and seek in the office. We made mockumentaries. We did the best we could. Show less

San Louie is what I like to describe as a side quest. While working full-time for an alternative newsweekly, along with several incredible collaborators, I helped found, write, organize, and edit a quirky, stunning quarterly magazine that showcased the Central Coast's creative talent. I worked with the very finest writers, photographers, illustrators, designers, and other visual artists the Central Coast had to offer to create a beautiful, thoughtful, and unexpected product. In print, no less. San Louie is what I like to describe as a side quest.
