Artist in Residence
-
Feb 2022 - Aug 2022
Over the course of 6 months I served as the 2022 Community Connections Artist in Residence with Speed Art Museum. In my residency I facilitated 14 free workshops throughout the Russell neighborhood and West End with a focus on mental health and the arts. Community engaged in crafts such as affirmation boards, worry boxes and family portraits while being apart of group talk therapy with a licensed therapist in a self soothing environment paired with meditation, yoga, and more. During the residency I also had the pleasure of creating a immersive exhibition titled, “Can I Grow? The Metamorphosis of the Black Woman” which highlighted legacy, intergenerational trauma, and the plight of the black woman’s story in a i reactive “living room”. Viewers were encouraged to engage all senses via smell, hearing, tasting, touching and seeing.
