Elected in 2010, I was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing the 39th legislative district. District 39 includes roughly 120,000 people in Montgomery Village, Washington Grove, and parts of Germantown, Clarksburg, and non-municipal Gaithersburg. I served on the Environment & Transportation Committee. I was also the Chairman of the Montgomery County House Delegation. From 2002-2004 my wife and I served as health volunteers in a rural subsistence farming community in Zambia's central province. We worked with community members to establish neighborhood health committees which implemented projects related to water and sanitation, child health and nutrition, safe motherhood, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and malaria.From 2004-2005 I was a Peace Corps Volunteer Leader (PCVL) tasked with preparing placement sites for new volunteers, helping with community entry, planning and coordinating meetings with Peace Corps Volunteers and government officials, and assisting with volunteer safety and security.
