I worked for the Hygiene Education Project under Professor David I. Levine from Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. With an eight-member team, I worked on building a hygiene education curriculum that was based on using interactive media like stories, activities, and games. We conducted classes in primary and secondary sections of schools catering to students from economically backward sections of the society in Chennai. The teaching experience and feedback from students helped us to adjust the curriculum so that it spoke to the specific linguistic and cultural needs of the students. The work brought to light the importance of addressing the psychological and cognitive needs of the students in the curriculum. During the first half of 2016, I was promoted from a volunteer to a part-time employee.
