As an Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity(IDEs) Fellow, I work closely with the Associate Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion to identify IDEs related concerns and explore strategies that address these issues. To accomplish this task, I function as a liaison between students and administration on IDEs issues within the campus community. Student perspectives may be gained in many ways, including but not limited to interviews, training feedback assessments, and anonymous surveying. From here I create a report to assess student concerns, research effective strategies for addressing these concerns, and establish programming based on these strategies. Last, I work with a team of IDEs Fellows and work groups to facilitate diversity and inclusion-focused training sessions for students, staff, and faculty. These programs and training session are done to resolve IDEs issues on-campus and to educate members of the campus community on issues of discrimination that occur on-campus, locally, and nationally. Positive Transformations is a counseling service that recognizes the uniqueness of every client and the issues that bring them to therapy. The service specializes in individual, couples, and family counseling for a variety of issues with a client focus on children, adolescents, and adults. As an intern at Postive Transformations, I completed numerous tasks that not only served to educate me on the clerical operations of a counseling service but also to expand my knowledge to other aspects of maintaining such a service. My general and clerical tasks consisted of greeting clients, filing records, collecting copays, and billing. I was also in charge of researching social media pages that provided coaching and advice to audiences similar to our own client audience. From here I determined effective and best practice strategies for advertising and outreach that could serve as a bridge between the Positive Transformation staff and a wider audience. Last, I was given the opportunity to sit in on sessions to observe the care Dr. James took to recognize the needs of each individual client or set of clients she was working with. Show less
