      I worked making my own line of glass tile mosaic on fiberglass mesh that would be installed in homes around the bay area on a commission basis. I also work in marble in a greco roman style using an ancient hammered also a style called indirecto, whereupon the piece is worked in reverse, and the artist only sees the backside, until installation is complete. So, as one can imagine, the artist needs to be a precise technician as well as an artist. So, as one can imagine, the artist needs to be a precise technician as well as an artist. The tolerance range is often less than 1/16” of an inch. And this is for pieces of 3 and 4 cm, for pieces of chiseled marble square tessarae, that have already been worked on four sides to make a cone shape. A laborious process, and one taught to me by an Italian Maestra (Master level teacher) from the internationally renown school and mosaic region of Spilimbergo in Italy who traveled here and whom I had the pleasure of working with for three months full time in 2008 at the studio with Pippa Murray’s mosaics on a commissioned piece. At that time, I performed daily data backups, as well as install the newly developed fiber optic cable, and usual CAT5 LAN network cable installations, and then do the integration for them into the buildings data hubs for access to the Stanford network and the Internet. I would troubleshoot any era of computers. (Side note: It was especially fun to support dot-matrix printers that I remembered using in the eighties to make ASCII banners in my mothers classes she taught for college student's), these printers and other ancient era technology, were still performing reliably and in use across the Klystron Department.
