Kacper Kielak
I have met Arvydas during my time at the University of Birmingham, and I have worked with him several times since then. I must say I have not met anyone better in combining problem-solving, software design, and leadership skills than Arvydas. He is still my go-to person when I struggle with some software optimisation or scalability problem, even though I met numerous engineers from the big tech throughout my career. Furthermore, not only was he the best student at the university in terms of pure algorithmic wizardry, but he was also one of the leaders giving shape to the student community. He organized a countless number of amazing events and projects as a part of several societies he led (most prominently UoB Computer Science Society with more than 200 members). His skills are not only a matter of my opinion. I currently work as a Research Scientist at Featurespace - a company where Arvydas did his year in industry before I joined. Although he was just an intern and his placement finished over half a year ago, I hear and about solutions he developed and mentions of his name all the time, whether these are company off-sites or essential planning meetings. His work made a profound impact and is being used by one of the biggest financial corporations in the world. I hope that our professional paths will cross again in the future. • Wrote a service that manages key puppet, clusto and package settings. Using git as a text storage db, that other authorised services can write to.
