Production optimization of Finlands second largest district heating network. My work ensures that the daily heating network operation is as cost efficient as possible. This includes electricity trading both on the day-ahead and intraday markets, gas balance management and keeping up with market development. Plants in the network include e.g. a 230 MWe CCGT gas turbine, 75 MWe coal CHP and 100 MWe electric boiler as well as several heat-only boilers. Thesis topic: Techno-economic evaluation of potential small modular reactor site-types for district heat production. My thesis focused on evaluating site-specific costs for different SMR site-types and estimating how they might impact the economic outlook of a potential project. In addition, I analysed the relevant legislation and estimated the compatibilty of different SMR designs with site-types.
