Title: Research Intern - AI4GLOF Project Company: National Geographic Society and Microsoft Location: Remote Sensing and Spatial Analytics Lab, Information Technology University of Punjab Duration: [August 2021 - December 2021] Description: I completed an internship on the AI4GLOF project, funded by the National Geographic Society and Microsoft and hosted at the Remote Sensing and Spatial Analytics Lab of the Information Technology University of Punjab. The project, titled "Artificial Intelligence for Glacial Lake Outburst Floods for Hazard Potential Assessment in Chitral, Pakistan," focused on using AI to assess the potential hazards of glacial lake outburst floods in the Chitral valley of Pakistan. During my internship, I worked on Quantum GIS and developed a database of satellite imagery for the project. The outcomes of this project will benefit all stakeholders, particularly local communities, NGOs, and disaster management authorities. The project will also build capacity for long-term predictive analysis and early warning systems for disaster assessment and management, providing critical technical advisory to policy makers and sufficient time for authorities to respond to developing disasters.
