Operations Manager
-
Feb 2000 - Oct 2001
My position at BmS was a hands-on Operations Manager with a primary focus of building a world class technical team that can troubleshoot and maintain disparate technologies and support over seven hundred users in five sites across the US. My team directly supported over 28 Windows NT, Windows 2000 and SQL database servers in five sites. As a seasoned professional I also took ownership of any complex problems with the network switches, routers, user computers, and servers until all issues were resolved. I held regular meetings with management to insure that our strategic direction was in alignment with the company’s goals. During my time at BmS I implemented a comprehensive cross-platform training campaign that enabled my team to support Linux, Macintosh, Sun, Windows NT, and Windows 95/98 workstation environments, accessing a variety of enterprise server platforms. I also obtained onsite Windows 2000 MCSE training for 10 employees through the California ETP program which saved the company $63,500 in training costs. I contributed my technical knowledge to the Project Management team that coordinates large scale Projects such as building the Information Technology infrastructure for all new sites. One of my first projects was to rollout Remedy Action Request System as the Global Ticket tracking system for all Bertelsmann mediaSystems sites including Valencia, New York, Indianapolis, Germany – a real challenge due to the de-centralized IT functions and the over 1,200 BmS employees worldwide.
