    • Language Assistant
      • Oct 2019 - Jun 2021

Over the course of two years, I taught English at the primary school CEIP Virgen del Rosario (2019-20) and at the secondary school IES Cervantes (2020-21) in Madrid, Spain. As a Language Assistant, my Bilingual Coordinators expected me to fulfill multiple responsibilities: these included assisting educators with group activities, test preparation with individual students, and independently planning and presenting my own lessons. Through my everyday duties as an LA, I gained experience lesson planning, public speaking, and checking for understanding. At IES Cervantes I volunteered to help lead two extracurricular activities, the United Nations Global Classrooms program and the debate team. In both these roles I coordinated with educators, students, and event center staff to prepare for each program's end-of-year regional conference. Though LAs were expected to only use English in front of students, I spoke Spanish with my colleagues every day, both informally and in meetings. Show less

    • Reporting Intern
      • Jun 2017 - Sep 2017

Reporting interns at the OC Weekly were expected to seek out current, under-reported news stories on their own initiative, conduct interviews, and write articles for print and digital publication. In my time at the Weekly I interviewed dozens of people, including park rangers, military personnel, FAA officials, and small business owners, to help the Weekly stay on top of local issues and keep the public informed. It was also my responsibility to help manage the Calendar page of the Weekly's site, posting and updating information about local upcoming events. Show less
