  Since 2013, I've covered one of the state's largest school districts - from state policies that govern it, to individual classrooms where the work gets done. During that time I reported extensively on students being hit at their bus stops, shedding light on an issue that had been plaguing North Carolina and led to a change in state law. I covered a school shooting incident, exposed contamination in groundwater under a school campus that was subsequently shut down and was awarded first place in education reporting from the North Carolina Press Association for a series on the resegregation of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools over the last 20 years after court-mandated integration orders were lifted.
