I assisted with patent prosecution for U.S. and international patent portfolios, including monitoring deadlines, preparing prosecution documents, conducting filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), corresponding with foreign counsel regarding ongoing patent prosecution in other countries/jurisdictions, and communicating with clients regarding prosecution and related matters and deadlines. Our team represented a wide variety of businesses in virtually every industry, including BIOTECHNOLOGY, HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATIONS, RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS and NONPROFIT INSTITUTIONS. Clients included Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, Medical College of Wisconsin, Arizona Technology Enterprises, Indiana University Research and Technology Corporation, and various mid-sized and smaller companies that exist on the cutting edge of technology. The Intellectual Property team obtained over 100 issued biotech patents for our research institution clients.

Our Immigration team represented both public and private companies, in many sectors—including professional services, health care systems, finance, manufacturing, education, gas and oil, pharmaceutical, and information technology across the United States and around the world. Each immigration case was unique and required thorough research, review and analysis in order to develop a winning case strategy. I gathered facts and documentation, wrote detailed persuasive letters of support, and prepared and filed visa petitions, applications for naturalization, and green card applications primarily on behalf of professional workers. My ability to provide EXCEPTIONAL CLIENT SERVICE helped me become a go-to team member for handling immigration matters for new clients, Madison-based clients, corporate executives, and persons of exceptional ability. I also took the lead on filings for student visas and cultivated strategic alliances with the agencies processing those visas. By becoming a POWER USER of the Immigration Tracker database software, I was able to improve team productivity by developing and implementing internal work flow processes and creating template documents for use by our entire team.

Quarles & Brady LLP has one of the largest public finance law practices in the country—larger by far than any other firm in Wisconsin. It has earned a national reputation and is consistently ranked as one of the top Bond Counsel in the Midwest and Wisconsin. My experience was primary focused on qualified 501(c)(3) bonds issued by the Wisconsin Health and Educational Facilities Authority (WHEFA) for the benefit of hospitals, healthcare facilities, senior housing, nursing homes, research facilities, and private colleges/universities located in Wisconsin and neighboring states. From July 2014 through April 2016, WHEFA issued approximately $2 BILLION of bonds to finance or refinance projects. As a member of a smaller team tasked with handling WHEFA financings almost exclusively, I provided support to two partner-level attorneys serving as Bond Counsel and Issuer’s Counsel to WHEFA. I drafted and reviewed bond financing documents, opinions, certificates and disclosure documents. I took responsibility for obtaining the requisite TEFRA approvals for financings from the Wisconsin Attorney General. To ensure a smooth TEFRA approval process, I formed and cultivated a close working relationship with the AG's office. Career highlights include: ♦ $157,805,000 The Medical College of Wisconsin—new professional office building ♦ $125,670,000 ThedaCare—replacement hospital, new cancer center facility, and replacement clinic facility ♦ $204,000,000 ProHealth Care, Inc.—refinancing of cancer center, multi-specialty clinic, and expansion of outpatient center ♦ $272,595,000 University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinic Authority—complex deal requiring extensive amendments that I summarized in Appendix C to the Official Statement (see attached WORK SAMPLE)
