Out of 100 applicants, only 3 passed to start the position of a police cadet. You are the eyes and ears of the police department. You don't engage in any contact, but help the police officers know what has been going on campus from your knowledge. You have to learn radio codes to be able to communicate with dispatch and other offers. I unfortunately left this position due to certain circumstances. I do not wish to return. • Lifeguard
      • Oct 2018 - May 2019

The Timpany Center's mission was to provide, through multi-agency involvement and San José State University student service learning, inclusive aquatic and land-based activities that target the promotion of physical health and wellness in individuals with disabilities, obesity, and/or advanced age from the greater Santa Clara County community. My main position was to provide a safe environment for patrons to pursue their therapy and fitness needs in an aquatic environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. To ensure the health and safety of the patrons in the Natatorium. This includes appropriate and efficient emergency response when needed. 2. To enforce the pool rule and facility rules in a fair and equitable manner and explain the rationale for the rule(s) when needed. 3. Assist the patrons as needed, but without compromising the safety of others using the Natatorium. This may include helping individuals with varying degrees of disabilities in/out of the pool by wheelchair, gurney, or other means/modes. 4. Maintain superior skill level(s) for the certifications that you possess through self-practice, team audits/practice, and scheduled in-service trainings. 5. Adhere to the policies and procedures set forth in the Lifeguard Handbook. 6. Attend all staff and evaluation meetings as requested. 7. Be on time and cover all assigned hours. If unable to work, the lifeguard will find an approved substitute. 8. Attend to the cleanliness of the Natatorium and its equipment. Follow daily/weekly/monthly cleaning schedules as requested.

I worked along with a total of four other lifeguard supervisors and about eleven or twelve other lifeguards. There is usually only one supervisor per shift. As a supervisor, you are to exceed the tasks regular lifeguards do as well as do pool chemical checks, communicate with guests, solve any problems the guest(s) may be having, work fast in any situation without hesitation, provide leadership in any sort of scenario, and so much more. I also had the duty of "prompting" the regular lifeguards through any scenarios such as CPR or first aid.

I worked with mostly small children, supervised the whole facility, and monitored and scanned the pool. I was trained in rescue, first aid techniques, and C.P.R. I'm required to explain and enforce the safety rules of the facility. I've received the highest score of "excellence" three times on my audits from Jeff Ellis & Associates. I worked with the custard machines, customer service, made the actual product, and applied my communication skills. I handled money and learned how to work with the cash register. I couldn't stay with this job because it wasn't balancing well with my other job at the time. I had over 50 fellow co-workers working in the aquatics. I worked with a large group of guests and children. I had to work with the machines for the waterslides, facilitate the children, monitor and scan the waters, care for any first aid, and apply my training skills every day. The safety rules had to be repeated and enforced multiple times and I worked for up 40 hours a week. I had over 50 fellow co-workers working in the aquatics.
