As part of my PhD program I spent two 10-week periods on a research placement in the University of Roehampton to investigate the effect of valproic acid on the proliferation of neural stem cells and the role of IL1β. I was trained and became competent in cell culture and developed the cell lines back in NUIG when the placement finished.
