Grant Writer and Strategic Planner

Jul 2016 - Aug 2018
Positive Community Kitchen (PCK) is non-profit organization in Eugene, Oregon. PCK's mission is to provide healthy food education and wellness in the community, while encouraging civic participation by youth. The grant writing and strategic planning internship has been approved by the University of Oregon's Food Studies Department. The internship with PCK has included the writing and submission of 3 grant proposals on behalf of opening an Executive Director position within the organization. Two out of the three submitted grant proposals have resulted in funds awarded to PCK. In addition to this, the President of the Board and myself have constructed a 4-year budget for Positive Community Kitchen. The budget reflected possible outcomes and growth from introducing the new Executive Director position. Alternatively, we created another budget to show PCK's anticipated funding plans for this project if grant money was not secured. In addition to this, Positive Community Kitchen secured a garden plot at the beginning of 2017. I created extensive plant family curriculum to be used by volunteers while at the garden. Show less

Oregonians for Human and Environmental Health focus on providing resources to communities affected by environmental harm in Oregon. After 17 people in Gold Beach, Oregon were harmed due to an arial spraying of herbicides over their homes, a court case emerged. I was brought into this project during the fundraising stage, to problem solve lack of funding, and to design media that brought attention to the issue at hand. While being enrolled in a Bicycle Transportation course through the Sustainable City Year Program, students worked with the city of Redmond, Oregon. The purpose of the course, was to explore Redmond, and use design skills to problem solve and reimagine streets to be more bicycle and pedestrian safe. After the course, myself, along with one other classmate organized student work into a usable document that was given to the city of Redmond's public planning department and the Major of Redmond. My role included writing, editing, and designing a cohesive document on In-design. The document is now used as a reference and guidance in the reconstruction of several Redmond streets in order to improve bicycle infrastructure. Show less
