The first thing that I think of when I write about Mr. Flores is his enthusiasm. He always spoke about education with great passion. His demeanor is constantly positive and he greets everyone with a smile on his face and with great humility and warmth. Mr. Flores has a profound depth of knowledge regarding IB. I attended many IB trainings which he organized and was impressed with the material he presented. He not only taught us the theory, but had us apply the knowledge by working together to create our own curriculum documents. In my opinion, a supervisor should focus on the positive qualities of their subordinates and help them become the best teachers they can be. Mr. Flores fits this description perfectly. He can see the positive aspects of a teacher’s style and then give constructive feedback in the way that helps their professional development and boosts their confidence and self esteem. He is not there to criticize ,but to guide and help in their professional development. I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Flores on curriculum documents. Because of his enthusiasm and skillful way of guiding the creative process of curriculum development, I felt at ease and enjoyed the process. We would give our ideas and he would add on to them or ask us questions that guided us to our best possible ideas and expression.

Mr. Antonio Flores was my supervisor at Beijing Royal Foreign Language School (BRFL) during the 2017-18 school year. At that time, he was the curriculum and teacher-training leader in the school IB Center, as well as head of the MYP physical and health education department. If I could describe my takeaway from this period, I would say that he taught us how to develop positive relationships with our students and with our colleagues as a way to build the community of learners, which is the foundation of an IB World school. Mr. Flores took each person differences into account and made us become the most efficient team in the middle school. Thanks to his knowledge of IB, curriculum, and teacher supervision, we were the first group to collaboratively produce more than 20 units of instruction that met both, MYP and the Chinese National Curriculum requirements. In a school where the students thought PE class was recess time for boys to play basketball while the rest played with mobile phones, Mr. Flores made a difference. Five weeks after his arrival, his students were able and willing to complete a mile running. Then, he hired me and other two PE teachers. He guided us to collaboratively design and implement a variety of units coherently arranged into strands to facilitate progressive development through inquiry-based learning in a four-year span. The rest is history. We were fortunate to watch the last PHE lessons that Mr. Flores taught before dedicating himself to the school IB authorization and then became a school leader elsewhere. I account his more than two-decade long teaching experience as one of the reasons why he makes such a great leader. It is not a surprise that so many teachers choose to follow him. During my time in Beijing, Mr. Flores not only helped me understand how the MYP physical and health education program worked, but because I arrived in the middle of the school year, he kindly offered me additional training during his FREE TIME. Even today, when I am working on the other side of the world, Mr. Flores still supports me in my IB journey —and I know that I am not the only one who counts with the privilege of his guidance, because he is passionate about education and helping people. I believe this explains why those schools that look for excellence would be fortunate to have Mr. Antonio Flores leadership to guide teachers, students, and parents in becoming a community of learners.
