The way they test Airplane landing and takeoffs in carriers is inland in the NAVAIR facilities with a “jet car”. This jet car simulates an Airplane in a carrier. The Jet Car used by NAVAIR is manually turned on and off via a knife switch, that literally cuts a wire off the jet car when it reaches a certain distance. When and only when this wire is cut will the jet car engines turn off. This knife is placed at a pre-determined distance from the start of the track and NAVAIR has no ability of changing this once the jet car has been throttled up. The goal of our project was to show a proof of concept by using a PIC, MS Development Board, and an RC Car (utilizing a Victor 884 speed controller) to effectively show that an RC Car which is set in full forward motion can be effectively turned off at any point including at the desired distance. This distance was set to 50 feet to merely show a proof of concept. Show less
