The ability serve my community and grow in my trade as a millwright. As an apprentice I am given a full-well rounded millwright apprenticeship which I lacked in other jobs. Paired with previous private industry experience I only hope to possess the tools to be an asset as a Red Seal Millwright on the tools and off the tools. This opportunity provides me the best workplace learning environment as a place of great mentorship. I gained experience working in the maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics, machining, controls & instrumentation diesel and heavy duty shops on base. I have had the ability to work on submarines, frigates(battleships), cranes, weapons, pumps, compressors, lathes, and cnc machines. The ability to coordinate and work with various shops on base has given me great information to understand how jobs are structured and coordination with trades as well as supplemental information and respect for other trades. Worked as a millwright with the Remote Handling Group to provide hands-on technical support for installation and maintenance of mechanical RH systems site-wide. Responsible for fabrication and modification of parts and assemblies used for RH tasks. My high regard for industrial safety, proficiency in standard hands-on techniques and practices, a strong mechanical aptitude, and a penchant for pushing the limits of the possible. Due to the complex and multi-disciplinary nature of the challenges at hand the incumbent will regularly interface with personnel with a variety of backgrounds and technical experience this was possible because of my strong verbal, written communication skills, and teamwork. A typical day focused on performing routine and incidental maintenance work on existing equipment to maintain uptime, supporting refurbishment initiatives for legacy equipment, and fabrication and installation of innovative new equipment and infrastructure. I operated equipment which are used in radioactive areas that humans do not enter. Hands-on work (fabrication in the machine shop, installation/modification/maintenance in the field), coordination of tasks, review of drawings for manufacturability, and specialized equipment operation. Mechanical maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of RH specialized equipment Fabrication of new parts and assemblies for the RH group including work such as: lathe and mill machining, welding, soldering/brazing, pressing, and other conventional methods Upkeep of equipment used in the RH machine shop, including maintaining an inventory of supplies and contributing to infrastructure upgrades as needed Setup, loading, rigging, and transport of radioactive waste disposal flasks General incidental mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair jobs for the group as required Industrial rigging, crane operation, and forklift operation.
