Playmobil Ltd is one of Europe's leading toy manufacturers producing and selling over 2 billion plastic figures per year. Formed part of the mould shop team working in the factory based in Malta, which is one of the three main factories based in Europe. Specifically, in the mould shop, we were tasked with repairing, servicing and manufacturing of moulds used to produce the toy figures which was done using over 500 injection moulding machines. Started with servicing and repairs of moulds in order to get familiar with the complexities of injection moulding tooling and eventually was offered a place in the prestigious EDM/Spark Erosion section of the mould shop. EDM was used in order to repair moulds being used on the production line as well as to create brand-new moulds. Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) were a critical part of the process as they were used for electrode offsets, cavity dimensions and also to check the quality of finished parts. Show less
