Anthony has been a critical piece of our operations almost since the day he joined us in 2007. He has a great capacity to learn new skills and has been able to fill many roles, both on projects and in marketing efforts. Anthony is also a good team member who strives to make others more effective in their roles.

It is amazing how a simple volunteer effort can turn into a life changing, and truly satisfying, experience. Throughout the 18 months I spent helping architecturally manage and design the new clinic, I had the chance to work with, serve alongside and, most importantly, become friends with some of the most caring, compassionate, dedicated, and truly genuine people I have ever met. FernCare is a free medical clinic for people ages 18 through 64 who are without insurance and/or people whose insurance policies do not cover office visits. The clinic will offer non-emergency medical care, mental health counseling, social work consults, benefits counseling, basic laboratory testing, and dispense generic medications. The clinic will be staffed by properly licensed or certified healthcare volunteers. I had the privilege to partner with the Interior Designer’s Coalition for Change (IDCFC), a group of interior designers who, through dedication of their own time and talents, provided interior finishes and design for the clinic. I attended numerous meetings with the FernCare Board of Directors, community members, future FernCare volunteers, and others who have helped design a clinic that will allow for a calm and soothing environment for patients in their time of need. It was important for us to take into consideration privacy concerns, efficiency, cost effectiveness, and functionality of each space that was designed. I provided not only design services, but also facilitated community engagement meetings, interviewed and recommended a general contractor, and gave professional advice regarding contractual relationships. The clinic opened last year as a culmination of hard work by the FernCare Board of Directors and countless volunteers who unselfishly dedicated their lives to improving their community. The clinic is fully functioning and funded, and serves to its capacity every week. More information about FernCare can be found at www.ferncare.org. Show less
