Joined when the company was called Racal Vodafone (previously called Racal-Millicom), ran by Sir Gerry Whent, and based primarily in the Courtyard in Newbury. Led team(s) delivering a billion £ + portfolio of company-wide global, technical (1G, 2G, 2.5G and 3G), business, breakthrough & strategic programmes. This included: Many of the world's ground breaking 2G and 3G network related commercial, processes, business models, products and services. This enabled and supported the rapid introduction and startup of national 2G mobile companies/networks into the UK, Greece, Holland, Uganda, Kenya, Malta, Egypt, Fiji, Germany, Australia, South Africa, Hong Kong. Contributing member of the International ETSI GSM (Group Special Mobile) standards group conceiving and defining 2G and 3G national and global mobile systems (i.e. The complete global mobile phone infrastructure). Contributing member of the CCITT (International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee) and ISO (International Organization for Standardisation) conceiving and defining the Basic Reference Model for Open Systems Interconnection, usually referred to as the OSI model (i.e. The global IP system that interconnects ALL phones/computers/etc). Contributing member of the OMG (Object Management Group) conceiving and defining the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA). This architecture promoted vender independent interoperability between distributed object based computer systems. This pioneering and innovative work was integral to establishing and building today's multi-trillion $ mobile phone and IT industry.
