I’ve been in the Disability field since August 2012, and I’ve been in a number of roles. I’ve been acting in the Direct Services Team Leader role for over 2 and a half years within the Department with AS&RS. I’ve been leading 3 SIL environments in and operational level with the Clients, RCOs and have been working well with various Team leaders. I work with my teams, to provide the best individual service to the clients and work with RCOs to ensure the paperwork is up to date, any of the needs for clients are met, such as Medicals and any health requirements. I also as part of my role, I present Conflict management training, Fire safety training.

I am currently working as a DSSO which encompasses 24/7 support for Mt Gravatt, Nundah & Oxley Service Centres. I have responded to medical situations, provided support to specific clients or staff throughout all three service centres when required and completed full medication and file audits to ensure compliance. This role has strengthened my knowledge and abilities in relation to the RCO role, responsibilities and duties. Within this role my responsibilities were to manage six staff within a 24/7 rotate in a home that cared for two clients. The clients both displayed highly functioning autism and presented with challenging behaviours. My duties included organising and planning events and activities for the week, arranging medical appointments and frequently liaising with family and decision makers. In addition to these responsibilities I was also required to maintain a 24/7 roster and ensure shifts were covered when required. I place high focus on providing active support. I have facilitated this through prompting, demonstrating or even hand over hand, to engage and empower the clients. I always encourage community engagement through conversation and involvement in community events where possible, and look for solutions when barriers are reached. Support worker/ Team Leader August 2012 - April 2015 Veranto – Oakdale Lodge I started as a support worker with Veranto in August 2012, and after 1 year I was a Team leader at a residential setting. I also look after a person in his home, who has a ABI injury. I have lead small teams through morning and afternoon tasks, assisted with both medication and personal care. Facilitated personal plans and helped the people we support with achieving their personal goals. Performance managed staff, and conducted both bi monthly reviews and Annual performance reviews. I value working with people, and it makes my day when I can empower and enrich the lives of the people we support. Worked in Day support and taken the people we support on holidays, both as a group or on a one on one support.

Carpenter March 2011-July 2012 Macquarie Builders through Labour hire Hobart, Tasmania. I have worked on a number of projects such as the first with Macquarie builders at the Aboriginal centre in Risdon vale. I was to form up the perimeter of the slab and set up the casting plates for the columns for the steel erection. I also had the task of doing the rest of the set out with grid lines for all the trades, set out and mark for the wall frames, construct the wall frames, whilst also having an apprentice. I had the task of building suspended slabs, stairs and constructing eaves, renovating, timber flooring and other areas of fit out. I have also worked on a range of building projects surrounding the Hobart area including penthouse apartments. Carpenter Jan 2010 – March 2011 Fairbrother, Hobart, Tasmania I first relocated from Brisbane to the East coast of TAS to work on the multi award winning Safire resort on 20 villas. I spent the first part cladding with shiplap cladding on majority of the villas, decking with mod wood and a number of other jobs. Whilst I was with fairbrother I had an apprentice on most jobs. After 6 months I then moved job sites to Hobart working on schools, 4 houses and the Pontville detention centre. All my jobs ranged from set out, framing, constructing eaves and building timber decks. I also formed up a suspension driveway linking the four houses together. Carpenter Jan 2005 – Dec 2009 Beenliegh Formwork, Brisbane Tasmania I spent the last half of my apprenticeship with this employer, which gave me lots of experience in both form work and more defined carpentry. I had a hard task master which me learn from my mistakes. I did work such as suspended slabs to stripping the formwork after the required time, to back propping, I also learned to build curved walls for the shoreline projects for people to sit.
