Worked with Dr. Amy Leader on projects including: Viral Hepatitis, HIV/AIDs, and HPV Health Knowledge/Education. Around the time when the Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine was approved for males, I began working with Dr. Leader on her research to understand the knowledge of adolescents and their guardians regarding HPV. Since the vaccine had previously only been available to a female population, we were eager to understand and identify any barriers that male populations would have toward HPV vaccination and prevention. I helped to run focus group and follow-up sessions to those focus groups as well as intervention programs to learn what Philadelphia adolescents and their care-givers knew about HPV and its prevention. Our work was meant to build a foundation upon which future programs could be specifically tailored to address the barriers we identified

    • Health Management and Policy Department Fellow
      • May 2009 - Jun 2011

I was one of two students selected to represent Drexel University’s School of Public Health for a Health Management and Policy fellowship. I worked with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health with the Viral Hepatitis Coordinator and in collaboration with the Program Collaboration & Service Integration Coordinator to help them revise the Viral Hepatitis Resource Guide published by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. I created a standardized qualitative inventory tool used to assess the hepatitis services available in Philadelphia Federally Qualified Health Centers during key informant interviews to update the Philadelphia Viral Hepatitis Resource Guide. Our hope was to create a comprehensive resource for Philadelphia residents to ensure they would have adequate information and access to viral hepatitis screening, education, counseling and treatment services. I also compiled a visual depiction of the disease burden of hepatitis C in Philadelphia to understand how those services were utilized
