Physician executive member of the hospital senior leadership team providing expertise in navigating and balancing hospital and medical staff priorities within the health system. I currently lead teams of direct reports that include quality, medical staff services, graduate medical education, medical student education, physician leadership and development, and innovation. Additionally, building on prior academic faculty experience in emergency medicine I serve as the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for our systems graduate medical education program of 24 internal medicine residents, 5 gastroenterology fellows and 2 geriatric fellows. Innovation opportunities have allowed us to work with outside partners to design our own Center for Physician Development which currently is working with PGY-1,2,3 IM residents and faculty physicians on “humanity in medicine” topics to venture upstream and develop and enhance resilience and compassion with a vision to prevent physician burnout. Our hospital system operates in a management agreement with UNC Health which allows significant opportunity for collaboration across a major health system and large geographic and diverse area of facilities in North Carolina from rural to urban including Raleigh/Durham Triangle area. Population health, social determinants of health, quality, patient safety and the return to normal operations from COVID-19 associated health system disruptions are the focus of my current daily efforts.
