Our interest is in the improvement of data assimilation algorithms using tools from machine learning. We interpreted data assimilation algorithms as recurrent networks and proposed a general architecture, named Data Assimilation Network which generalises the Elman network. This architecture performs the functions of Data Assimilation algorithms that is the analysis and the propagation of probability density functions. When implemented with neural network and trained with time averaged cross entropy, our architecture outperform state of the art data assimilation algorithms on Lorenz systems. Show less
