As a software architect I helped to focus the direction of the FactorLab's various products to meet the changing needs of its clients. In this role, I interfaced directly with clients, managed an off-shore team, designed changes to existing software, designed new products and implemented them using Java, python, SQL databases (mySQL), NoSQL databases (Dynamo DB, Snowflake and RedShift), various AWS technologies, Spark and Databricks. The products were multi-tiered which included an IOS watch application, an IOS and Android Phone application, a web application with REST based services and a background infrastructure to process all the data rows captured by all the input devices. Each watch produced 1 row every 25ms or 40 rows a second. As the watch hardware improved and the battery life got longer and longer, we were ingesting millions and millions of data rows per day.

I have played many roles and done many jobs at SYSCOM over the years. As a front-end developer, I used JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Dojo, jQuery, React, Angular and Bootstrap. As a middle-tier programmer, I used REST, SOAP, Messaging, Sockets, NodeJS, various app servers and various web servers. I have also done back end programming using Java, C#, python against many backends including many SQL databases, NoSQL databases, flat files and in-memory repositories. I have worked on large teams, medium sized teams and small teams (down to 1). I have worked with Fortune 500 companies, Government agencies, very small companies and everything in between. The legacy I am most proud of at SYSCOM is a suite of 2 products (one front end and one middle tier) built using Java, C#, HTML 5, CSS, JavaScript and Wix. The installation options were very flexible: it could be installed on every user's desktop, installed once in the cloud for the entire organization or any configuration in between. SYSCOM sold thousands of licenses of each product and installed it in various ways in international fortune 500 companies. The two products worked together to allow the distribution and viewing of corporate images through out the enterprise. It had "plugins" for popular enterprise level document management systems and was built modularly so new plugins could easily be created for other systems both big and small. It has the flexibility to push standard images to the browser or another thick client viewer as well a custom HTML 5 viewer to support legacy image formats which are still widely used around the world. These products were my brain child: I was responsible for 100% of the design and the vast majority of the development. PublicBuy.Net (PBN) and SYSCOM are owned by the same person. I joined PBN to support SimpleBuy and SimpleLink and to help groom them for sale. Once the owner sold PBN, I joined SYSCOM.

Simplexis created software designed to manage the complex procurement system in the US government. SimpleBuy was the name of the procurement software. My job was to build an integration product that facilitated the move of financial data from the SimpleBuy online databases to remote client financial systems. The goal was to modify SimpleBuy so it would update client's financial systems as the procurement process occurred. This ensured that funds were reserved and allocated at the correct times so they couldn't be used elsewhere. I designed a product that was able to send secure messages to clients around the world using nothing more than email. I essentially wrapped a control protocol around SMTP - much like TCP did to IP and generated TCP/SMTP. This meant the communication channels had guaranteed delivery, ordering and retry logic build into the control stack. The entire messages were secured using both symmetrical and asymmetrical encryption so we were able to achieve top performance using the best security available. I managed the team of 10 developers and completed development tasks myself to create the product - SimpleLink was born. The first integration done was against a Chicago county school's financial system. The financial product in use was from a small Chicago based vendor that no one had ever been able to integrate with before. We were successful in a very short time which was instrumental in securing Simplexis' first revenues. When Simplexis was sold to PublicBuy.net (PBN), I was one of 3 developers identified as "must keep" - our transfer to PBN was part of the sale conditions.

I joined Ariba Canada as their Technical Lead - in this role all technical questions came to me first. ORMS (Ariba's procurement system) was configured, modified and augmented exclusively using Java and Scheme. Though only at the company a short time, I was assigned to their most important project. It was already behind schedule and dangerously close to being cancelled. Through sheer will and effort, I was able to turn it around and make it successful. This was my first job out of University. I worked in Java, C and PowerBuilder against Oracle and Sybase databases. I was on the development team for the Standard Procurement System (SPS) which won the largest contract in company history. I was responsible for building in financial touch points into SPS. I was also part of a small team of 4 developers who designed and built a Business Operating System (BOS) using object oriented design and programming principles. It was used as the building block for a few successful projects. I was responsible for encapsulating Database functionality, security, drag and drop and OLE functionality with Word and Excel. I was one of only 2 developers who passed the Ariba Certified Engineer exams (ACE).
