  I am currently working in the Willet library at Wesleyan College. I am a student assistant. I am located at the front desk at the Academic Resource Center and take phone calls, make copies, communicate to students, and coworkers, and many other tasks. Horse Haven of Tennessee

  Horse Haven of Tennessee is a horse rescue and rehabilitation center in Tennessee. They help horses in bad and rough situations. The best thing about Horse Haven is their willingness. A lot of the horses coming in have had near death experiences coming in. Many of the horses are scared of people because of their past. Horse Haven works to reassure these horse that not every person is like that. Horse Haven also puts (selected) horses up for adoption; after they have made a full recovery. During my time at Horse Haven, I worked a lot with a horse I fell in love with this summer. I got to work with a horse that was scared of horse trailers. Her story is she got in a bad accident years ago, and never got in a trailer again. I even got to ride her, and I learned how to ride bareback. Some of the other things I got to do while I was there included the following: Pick up and drop off trips, Vet trips, Mucking stalls, Filling waters, Feeding, Hay distribution. I also learned social skills, as I worked on a team, so I had to communicate, I also had to talk to people who were interested in adopting. The one experience that will forever stick with me is when I was in charge of calling managers at stores near Horse Haven to ask if they would be willing to donate cases of waters. After that, I had to go pick up the cases at the stores and bring the cases of water back to Horse Haven. One final experience I would like to talk about in detail is my experience as a mentor/trainer. This summer I also worked with high school students to help them become better riders, and compete in a rally. I got the chance to work with six students, to better their skills as riders and people. My experience at Horse Haven has been amazing. I love what they do, and I enjoy getting to help them. I have been very lucky to get to work with them for the past two summers. During my time at Horse Haven, I worked a lot with a horse I fell in love with this summer. She had problems walking, and I helped her recover.I helped her walk over obstacles. I was able to take her to her forever home before I left. Some of the other things I got to do while I was there included the following: Pick up and drop off trips, Vet trips, Mucking stalls, Filling waters, Feeding, Hay distribution, and more. I also learned social skills, as I worked on a team, so I had to communicate, I also had to talk to people who were interested in adopting. I still keep in touch with the barn manager, and she has already given me my task for next summer. I am so excited to return. Show less
