The European Youth Education Centre (EJBW) is an institution and meeting centre for non-formal civic youth education at the »place of learning Weimar«. It is a meeting place for young people and professionals from Germany and abroad. The EJBW provides the opportunities to discuss key sociopolitical issues, learn with and from each other and gain unique educational experiences. The work of EJBW enables young people to learn autonomously with their hearts, hands and minds. The paedagogical work orients itself around young people’s questions, awakens curiosity, supports debate and offers diverse ways of learning: learning through experience, through contemplation, through communication with others and through one’s own behaviour. The city of Weimar is used as a place of learning with its rich cultural, philosophical, historical and political diversity, so that topical socio-political questions can be grappled with in situ and put in historical context. EJBW engenders intercultural and international communication and exchange by bringing young people together from all over the world. I am facilitating workshops and seminars at the EJBW on a regular base that follow the principles of political non-formal education for teenagers and are centered around socio-political relevant topics exemplified in the history of the city of Weimar, e.g. the ideas of Bauhaus, times of national socialism in Weimar and the former concentration camp Buchenwald or democratic processes during the times of the Weimar Republic.

Co-Founder

The bar was born out of a lot of will and ideals; to counteract the gastronomy sector, which lives on exploitative working conditions, and to create good or at least acceptable working conditions through self-organized collective structures. We had to cut back on our demands a little and yet, after a lot of work, team reflection and internal organization, there is a bar that tries to perform the balancing act between being a safer space for queer people and a regular neighborhood bar. For me personally, I have learned, in addition to much craftsmanship, to think a project from scratch, to observe and shape the changing group dynamics over a long period of time and after all to create a place with sustainable work procedures.

Thai Box & Fitness coach

Mar 2021 - Jul 2022
Sidekick is a sports club for Thai boxing, self-assertion and yoga. We enjoy movement, sense of togetherness and practicing martial arts. The training sessions aim to improve flexibility, reaction, coordination and strength. What distinguishes this club from other martial arts clubs is: the offer is aimed at girls, women, lesbians, inter-, trans*-, non-binary and agender people (WLINTA*). In my position as part-time coach I offered cardio classes to adults that were composed of HIIT (high intensity interval training) and Thai Box elements. Additionally, I was responsible for teaching Thai boxing in a playful manner to children and teenagers.

What strengthens and what weakens democracy? That is the leading question in all of the work that the European educational meeting centre (EJBW) does in the field of non-formal civic youth education. The focus lays on topics that currently challenge democracy on a local, national and European level. The EJBW offers a place where young people can learn more about old ideas and develop new innovative ones in order create the future of Europe. In all this the notion of working together, intercultural exchange and therefore getting to know each other is of major importance. The EJBW supports young people in becoming self-confident, open-minded, social, responsible and engaged persons. We empower these young people to think critically about the society they are part of and to become active for the causes they care about.

The WE Festival is a non-profit organisation that promotes sustainability and cultural development in Maastricht through the realisation of a local week-long cultural festival encompassing different interest fields such as arts, music, culture, food, film and others. It does so by collaborating with 50+ partners including student associations, governmental and non-governmental organisations, private persons and companies. WE Festival usually occurs at the end of April or beginning of May and our visitors can participate in lectures, discussions and workshops, watch a movie screening, dance and theatrical performances or attend some of our night events with live and electronic music. WE Festival has a lot more to offer to anyone who is interested, people from different backgrounds at all ages are welcome. Most of the events organised by WE Festival are donation-based or free of charge to ensure that everyone can participate. WE Festival is open to anybody who wants to help with its organisation, be it a new member of the core team, performer, workshop host or the ultimate WElunteer. WE also look for new partners and sponsors. At this moment WE Festival's core team consists of international students from different faculties, local change-makers and expats. WE Festival's motto is "WE Connect - WE Create - WE Collaborate" and WE strive to fulfil this motto while keeping in mind sustainability and ethical values.

The University Maastricht is growing, therefore, a new study facility was opened. I was in the student Team of 4 people, designing and deciding about the needs, purposes and looks of the study facility. The experience working for the University deepened my communication skills as we had to negotiate with different stakeholders. The work itself widened my horizon to more creative fields such as Interior design and architecture. The University Maastricht is growing, therefore, a new study facility was opened.
