New teachers need a strong mentor and leader, and Annie Loftis checks all the right boxes. I worked with Annie for 3 years at Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, first as colleagues and then with Annie as my supervisor. When asked who I would like to see as assistant headmaster for middle school, Annie’s name was at the top of my list. Annie acted as counselor for teacher concerns and frustrations during the chaos of pandemic-teaching, and she turned those concerns into actionable items to move forward. Meetings were to the point and productive because she set clear, defined expectations and made herself available to answer questions. Annie was tuned-in to the needs of her team, allowing room for those who needed more freedom to complete tasks and working more closely with those who needed extra support. As a teacher, it can be easy to forget things in the multitude of tasks we need to complete. Annie always sent reminders for important deadlines and ensured key tasks were completed on time, even if it meant an face-to-face check-in. And yet, I never felt pestered or pressured. She made me feel capable and qualified, and I strived to live up to those expectations. I will never understand how Annie managed to balance the competing needs of the students, the teachers, the parents, and the larger school administration, but she did so with grace. I will never forget my last day with Scottsdale Prep. A lunch-time fire alarm is never a calm event, and it’s especially chaotic when the alarm is triggered by a smoking microwave in the cafeteria. Once we were allowed back into the building, the kids were rowdy following the excitement, I was still catching my breath, and Annie was in center of the chaotic vortex, calming students, listening to concerns, and addressing the next crisis. Annie is a skillful leader and problem-solver who has my admiration and my highest recommendation.

I am grateful to have worked with Ms. Annie Loftis at Scottsdale Preparatory Academy for seven years. In that time, I have observed Ms. Loftis to set very high standards for her students, for other teachers, and for herself. She manages others with a professional level of tact and grace that one doesn't see every day, and in turn, she earns the respect of others. She manages her responsibilities calmly and takes a solution-focused approach to hurdles and conflicts. She also values accountability-- I know that Ms. Loftis will do what she said she will do. Lastly, Ms. Loftis always meets deadlines without overlooking details, which in a high-octane college preparatory school counts for a lot. Besides being an accomplished, highly capable manager and the embodiment of collegiality, Annie Loftis possesses a compassionate heart. She truly sees other people as human beings--and she works hard to help others become better with a healthy balance of challenge and acceptance. I would recommend her highly for any endeavor!
