The Klingbeil Lab studies the proteins involved in mitochondrial DNA replication in the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma brucei, the causative agent of the devastating and neglected tropical disease African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness). I am currently pursuing an independent research project to study the essential mitochondrial DNA Polymerase protein POLIC and identify the specific sequence determinants within its uncharacterized region (UCR) necessary for protein localization. As part of this lab team, I attend weekly Journal Clubs, in which I am responsible for reading, comprehending, and presenting figures of a relevant research article. I also attend weekly lab meetings, in which I have the responsibility of presenting data from my project. Show less
