One could think that a wide open hole such as leaves hydathodes, that provide a direct access of pathogens to its apoplast, seems a risky strategy for a plant. We suspect that this specialized structure similarly maintains a specialized transcriptome. One protein, the cold dehydrin, is of special interest, as it could protect from dessication and pathogens. For this project, I test the ability of the dehydrin's promoters region of two related Fabaceae species to drive a transcient expression of a luciferase reporter gene in Trifolium.

I assisted researchers in elaborating their upcoming projects from budgets to DNA sequence analyses. Areas of expertise : DNA sequences evolution (phylogenetic analyses, repeat regions discovery), molecular biology laboratory (DNA extractions from diverse sources and species, real-time PCR for gene expression or copy number analyses), plant taxonomy. I organized and taught learning activities (seminars, short courses, hands-on workshops) on sequence analyses (NGS, dating nodes in a phylogeny) for biodiversity and evolution questions. I wrote the monthly Newsletter, and organized symposia. We successfully submitted the renewal application to our major funding agency (FRQNT), through well coordinated team effort and efficient communication with our members and partners. I sat up the laboratory for an automated Sanger sequencer and was responsible for daily laboratory management, including purchasing. I provided technical help on molecular techniques and DNA sequences analyses for researchers. I executed, under my supervisor’s recommendations, a phylogenetic study of Poa and affiliated genera based on chloroplast trnT-trnF sequences, focusing on basal relationships and related genera.
