Annie is a partner in the general litigation group at Downey Brand LLP, where she practices complex business litigation in both state and federal courts. A former federal law clerk, Annie especially enjoys litigation that is venued in federal court, or, even better, litigation that is venued in both state and federal court. Annie has had a number of successes in her litigation practice over the years, including her participation in the defense of a major timber company in six consolidated state actions and one federal action where plaintiffs sought an aggregate of approximately $1 billion dollars. Annie helped facilitate and participated in all phases of percipient and expert discovery, and was one of a four-person team that prepared for a three-month jury trial of the consolidated state actions. Those state actions were dismissed with prejudice immediately before trial began based on legal arguments that Annie helped develop. The four-person trial team, including Annie, subsequently obtained a terminating sanction award and fees of more than $32 million, based on discovery misconduct by the lead state plaintiff. That case is currently on appeal.Annie has also successfully drafted and argued a number of dispositive motions that led to dismissal of plaintiffs' claims against her clients; negotiated successful settlement agreements under difficult circumstances where informal resolution seemed unlikely; and obtained favorable rulings at the appellate level that have overturned trial court decisions.Annie knows that lawyers sometimes get a bad rap, but she loves her job. Her favorite thing about being a lawyer is getting to know the details about her clients' businesses, understanding those nuances, and helping her clients solve problems in ways that make sense under the demands of their specific industries.
