  This REDF internship project supports Coalfield Development, a West Virginia-based community and economic development organization. Coalfield's mission is to "rebuild the Appalachian economy from the ground up" through community revitalization and workforce development. Revitalize Appalachia, Coalfield's flagship social enterprise, is a licensed construction company and real estate developer. They acquire real estate property in local communities and build partnerships that promote bottom up community revitalization. All of their projects are community-centered and typically consist of mixed-use, mixed-income properties. This project investigates the capital stack needed to support these large-scale real estate development projects from conception to actualization, including untapped potential sources of funding (i.e., New Market Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credits, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, etc.).
