UFA is a co-operative and has a mandate from its members to invest back into the rural communities of Alberta. I was lucky to be one of two people who ensured we were adding value and investing members' money back into rural Alberta for the benefit of all within those communities. My passion for communications and public relations was greatly enriched by over four years of comprehensive experience at AdFarm; a full-service communications agency dedicated to the agriculture industry. My primary responsibilities were running the media relations division and managing the public relations component for diverse client accounts. Some of my key accountabilities were: media relations; event planning; writing and editing; promotion of PR internally – website updates, creation of materials for RFPs including PowerPoint and proposal documents. I worked with a variety of clients including crop protection companies, the beef industry, fertilizer companies, non-profit and government-funded organizations: Bayer CropScience, Dow AgroSciences, 4-H Canada, RBC, CFBMC, Agro, Brandt, Ducks Unlimited Canada, UFA, Spitz, Agrium and Alberta Beef Producers Show less

Researched and wrote briefing notes on government programs, species at risk, ecological goods and services and other issues under the environmental committee's jurisdiction. I also created a livestock transportation newsletter, contributing the majority of the copy. This was a part-time position during the fall semester of the BAC program prior to my second work term position, but extended into 2006 on a freelance basis for the Species at Risk Fact Sheets and other writing as required. I began my career at the Scotiabank Customer Service Call Centre in September 1996 as a CSR (Customer Service Representative) and moved up the chain, becoming a Customer Service Manager in 1999. My duties as manager included the training and coaching of a team of CSRs (I had approximately 16 direct reports). Monthly coaching responsibilities included side-by-side call quality, taped call review and scoring, and setting goals and objectives for the coming month. Semi-annual reviews included overall scoring and rating of activities on and off the phones. I was measured by the team's performance in call quality and achieving sales targets and was highly rated in both areas. During my time at Scotiabank I also completed the Investment Funds in Canada and the Mortgage Loan Underwriting courses offered through the Institute of Canadian Bankers. Show less
