In addition to working as Year 4 teacher I took lead responsibility for children protection issues in the Primary school were safe and clear procedures were in place for staff and visitors to follow. In this role I lead a team of five Deputy DSLs as well ask making sure all staff are aware how to raise safeguarding concerns, provide ongoing training to help all staff understand the symptoms of child abuse and neglect, referred any concerns to social care, monitored children who are the subject of child protection plans and maintained accurate and secure child protection records. As SENCO I was directly responsible for consulting and liaising with staff, parents and carers, external agencies and appropriate professionals and voluntary bodies. I ensured that support is coordinated and targeted appropriately, and that all are informed and updated about children on the SEN register and understand how best to help
