I am studying towards a Bachelor of Arts, double majoring in Theatre and Art History. My focus is Pacific and New Zealand art, and I am also very interested in cultural performing arts. I will complete my Bachelor of Arts degree this month, October 2014, and am currently contemplating embarking on the Theatre Honours Programme next year, 2015. Through my studies at Victoria University I have developed in depth research skills and the ability to write coherent and analytical essays on theatre history, as well as scholarly articles on topics within our art world. I have been fortunate enough to study topics in the art we have here in Aotearoa (New Zealand) as well as more extensively throughout the Pacific. Although these areas have been most important to me in terms of art as well as historical background, I have also enjoyed delving into the Baroque art period in Europe, as well as the history of photography during the 19th Century. Our theatre department offers many diverse opportunities to broaden skills that are useful within the theatre and performing arts industry. I have developed skills in designing, rigging and working lighting within the theatre space. We have worked with a variety of Directors, from different cultural backgrounds, within tight schedules. As students we work efficiently, proactively, collaboratively and positively, with communication and respect for our peers being ESSENTIAL. The theatre programme at Victoria University of Wellington is intensive and fast paced, and produces some of the leading actors and production personnel in the Wellington region and throughout New Zealand. I have been actively involved in VUWSA's Class Representative programme, and also involved in the VUW Rowing Club & VUW Theatre Students Association. I am extremely proud to be a student at Victoria University of Wellington and look forward to putting my skills to use within the Art Industry in and around New Zealand, and further abroad, once I have graduated.
