The Brussels Institute for Statistics and Analysis centralises, processes and distributes statistics on the Brussels-Capital Region. It carries out current, structural and prospective socio-economic analyses. The BISA is now part of "perspective.brussels", the Brussels Planning Agency that brings together the different agencies and units responsible for statistics, socio-economic information and strategic and regulatory planning in the Brussels-Capital Region. At the BISA, I am in charge of collecting and analysing statistical data on several thematic issues. I also follow more transversal files, like sustainable development and circular economy. I am involved in following international/EU-related files (e.g. SDGs). I am also in charge of a study to develop indicators on the quality of the living environment. And I am doing what I like best: improving links between data/science and the design & implementation of policies. • PhD (forest ecology)
      • Jan 1997 - Jan 2001

In the framework of my PhD, I carried out research on the spatial ecology of forest insect pests. The focus of my thesis was the spatial distribution of Ips typographus in Wallonia. During my PhD, I got to learn about forest health and forest ecology. I got familiar with many methods of data analysis, whether statistical or spatial. I also participated in many activities of my host laboratory, including biodiversity inventories in Brussels (invasive insect pests, aquatic pond life...). I had the opportunity to travel to other European countries and to the USA to learn about their own problems linked to forest insect pests and invasions.

    • Research assistant
      • Sep 1995 - Dec 1996

This was my very first job! I worked as a research assistant on the inventory of forest resources in the Luxembourg Province (Belgium). We were more specifically interested in the assessment of Douglas Fir resources. I learned how to prepare and carry out field inventories (sampling methods, field work...), how to analyse the collected data and how to synthetise them in reports and publications. Altogether, I spent 10 months doing field work and this was a truly great learning experience.
