Job Objective: To complete fieldwork aimed at assessing the use of regenerating cutblocks by ungulates (e.g., moose, deer and elk) in relation to available forage and hiding cover. The main tasks involve installing and monitoring remote cameras, and classifying vegetation species as part of forage surveys within cutblocks. Duties and Skills Required: -Rocky Mountain and Boreal forest plants -Hiking over 2 km through rugged terrain with a 16 kg pack -Working in a remote field camp for up to nine days -Working outdoors all day despite poor weather (heat, rain, snow) and biting insects -Safely navigating poor roads (gravel, mud) with heavy duty truck traffic -Navigating with a GPS, maps, and a compass -Proficiency operating quads and a 4x4 truck Show less

Completed two summer seasons: Job Objective: A Lookout Observer's first priority is to provide early detection and accurate reporting of potential forest fires. Lookouts provide continuous observation until fire control personnel arrive at the fire location. Duties and Skills Required: -Maintain a constant vigilance for smokes indicating wildfire, and report and record all potential smokes and lightning strikes to the Forest Area office by radio -Communicate reports and check-ins by radio with the Forest Area office at scheduled times -Assisting other towers and aircrafts through acting as a communications relay between fire camps, field staff, aircraft, etc., as required. -Perform routine maintenance work on the lookout buildings, equipment and to the site itself -Check and record weather readings at least twice daily and report to the Forest Area Headquarters. -Maintain a station log of all radio transmissions. -Work at an isolated site alone for extended periods of time Show less
