  As a genealogist with over 30 years’ experience, like most, I started with my own family tree and now use my skills and expertise to help others with their research. For the last 15 years, I have worked on a voluntary basis as a consultant at a local family history centre. I have also helped at my local library in the local studies section. Based in Shropshire, I have a particular interest in that county, along with Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. However as experienced researchers will know, once you start the journey, it can take you anywhere and in my case I have ended up seeking information from Sheffield, Rotherham, St Austell, parts of Dorset and the Welsh Marches, to name a few. I have continued to develop my knowledge and experience by working as an indexer for the Family Search indexing programme, working with records such as parish registers, marriage bonds, probate records, and newspaper obituaries, in preparing these documents for online research. Last year I started my own business, Family Ties Genealogy, with a fellow researcher. We undertake the whole research on behalf of our customer or offer advice and support around specific areas as they work on their own project. We draw on our knowledge of parish registers, censuses returns, etc to extract and cross reference information to determine accuracy. Show less
