I had the pleasure of working extensively with Anna Derby during my Peace Corps service in Mozambique. Anna served as the elected President and I served as the Vice-President of VAC (the Volunteer Advisory Council) which serves as the liaison between Peace Corps Volunteers and the Staff. The qualities that stand out to me about Anna are her leadership skills, teamwork, and her ability to get things done. Anna was at the forefront of many Peace Corps policy changes, difficult decisions, and new projects. She showed her leadership as she managed over 12 VAC members at a time, all of whom were volunteering their time. Anna was able to distribute responsibility in an effective way and her tenure as President accomplished a great deal. Her efforts were praised greatly by both Country Directors that served during her tenure. I am proud to have been a part of her team and give my highest of recommendations. Anna will be a great addition to any organization.

Anna is incredible. She worked tirelessly as president of our Volunteer Advisory Council in Mozambique to ensure volunteers' concerns were addressed and positive change was made. She has been essential in the realization of many projects at the university in Mozambique where she teaches, including an American Corner where students can read books in English and Portuguese, check out computers and use the internet, and participate in activities like Chess Club, English Club, and English Classes for kids. Anna is good at connecting with people in a community, understanding their needs, and encouraging projects and ideas that develop from these connections. She knows how to motivate and assist community members in projects and is able to subtract herself from the equation once necessary to ensure sustainability.
