Peer Advisor
-
Jun 2018 - Dec 2018
As a Peer Advisor in the LEAP program at the University of Utah I worked with fellow students. I was a resource to the students if they had any questions about campus, professors, and signing up for classes. I sat in class with the students and served a person that the students could come to with any questions building my interpersonal skills. I was also trained to know what to do, and which resources around campus could be useful in cases of emergencies including mental health, physical safety, physical health etc. This helped me to stay professional when on the job. Besides being a resource with information for campus, I also helped in service projects ran by my fellow PA’s. I participated in Bags-to-Beds and multiple fundraisers for the Road Home. This taught me the importance of building community and understanding that everyone comes from different backgrounds and to be mindful of that.

My primary tasks were to create growth media and agar plates for the use of seedlings. After making the plates I them prepped them by filling them with different strains of arabidopsis. I was also in charge of checking for growth and MEME analysis. My primary tasks were to create growth media and agar plates for the use of seedlings. Laboratory Assistant

Jun 2015 - Aug 2015
I performed lab work such as gel electrophoresis and PCR in the Heemstra Lab. Through this opportunity I gained valuable skills such as presenting, learning to be resilient when things don’t go as planned. I have become flexible with outcomes, and strict with procedure. This opportunity taught me so much more than how to run a gel, or how to analyze data, but it gave me skills that are useful in day to day life.
