I have experienced a variety of placements that enabled me to practice nursing skills. My learning environments include wards that specialise in: Complex Care, Parkinsons' Care, Orthopaedics & Neck of Femur, North West Ventilation & MD Care, Acute Cardiac Care. I have had various spoke placements across the Trust that include: Burns unit, Colposcopy, Renal clinic, various theatres (hip replacements, skin grafts, Internal cardiac device fittings, angiograms). Additionally I have gained insight into community nursing through my placement with district nursing team as well as various spoke placements with Macmillan Team, IV Team, Leg Ulcer Clinic and local Community Treatment Clinic. Working in various environments I have been able to acquire knowledge and practice clinical skills such as patients assessment, observations, performing ECGs, venepuncture, blood glucose checks, blood gases, oral & tracheal suctioning. I practiced safe medication administration via various routes (oral, injectable, through PEG as well as oxygen therapy) under supervision. Additionally performed bladder washouts, INR tests, nephrostomy care and many additional tasks, always adhering to the local policy. I have also undertaken various administrative tasks and practiced nursing notes. I have also been able to develop communication skills with patients and provide holistic and compassionate care.
